The debate has plagued fans of Fox’s record-breaking animated series "The Simpsons" for the 18 years the show has been running on creative satire and cartoon slapstick; which state is their hometown of Springfield really in? The question has been mocked many times by the writers themselves with the clues all pointing to Springfield being Springfield, USA rather than any particular Springfield, though there is seemingly one in almost every one of the 50 states.
Well, Fox is holding a contest between 16 different Springfields to determine which will host the premiere of "The Simpsons" movie, so finally a winner will emerge.

According to BuddyTV, the participating Springfields will submit a short film about why their Springfield is the real Springfield of "The Simpsons."
The State Journal-Register, the paper of Springfield, Ill., has been expressing strong sentiments that this is, and possibly always has been, the original Springfield, the home of Abraham Lincoln, and the state capitol of Illinois, drawing parallels between characters and famous Springfieldians (such as Mr.

Burns and their Todd Renfrow, general manager of City Water, Light and Power, and a striking resemblance between their retired Channel 20 anchor Don Hickman and the show with its Channel 6 anchor Kent Brockman). They also drew parallels between buildings like the elementary school on the show and their actual high school and the power plants. Springfield, Ill.

being one of the better known Springfields, the whole town has caught Simpson’s fever, having included the Simpsons family in its St. Patrick’s Day parade as big celebrities in its play for the part.
Soon, the Simpsons will have a home in their movie’s premiere and ideal location.

"The Simpsons" movie springs into theaters on July 27.
