Looks like it has a big afro.

|
Wow. That is pretty ugly.

It might be a good cam (I'm sure it is), but a little more time with working on the aesthetics wouldn't have hurt.

|
I agree its a little on the ugly side, but on the other hand, it looks pretty small so it wouldnt be extremely obvious. I hope it gets a lot of software support, the EyeToy was a great inovation in gaming but it never got all the support it should've.

Maybe this time around it will. I'm going to get one though, looks like a good replacement for a headset as long as you can hear the other players voices through the standard speakers.

i want that game that was shown last year, with the cards looked well cool :D yeh it is rather ugly, oh well
i can't wait until someone makes a driver for this for the pc, that's all I used the original eyetoy for.

If only it were a walking eye.
Being in Japan, will see soon hopefully! Hope can hook up tp a PC like the eye toy for PS2, thats a super camera movement and audio.

.. PS3 camera can only be better?

Is this a joke? This thing looks horribly dated.

Now why doesn't MS or Nintendo make these too.

The eye-toy could have been the next Nintendo Wii if they bothered to invest any effort into it. Supposedly, they hired an ex-NASA expert who researched controlling humanoid robots via cameras. But they never used any of that technology.

Sony could have been the frontrunners in physically interactive play. Instead, they released the eyetoy along with a few dumb games for it, then let it die. I have no reason to believe they won't do the same here.

If they were really serious, they will releas the eyeToy along with a light-saber battle game. Many geeks have made variations of this using PC webcams. Done professionally with a 120FPS camera this could be good.

Instead, they will no doubt launch it with an enhanced version of Tetris and video email program that only works with other PS3s.

Damn thats ugly. For crying out loud, why the hell didnt they incorporate the speaker as part of the base!

?!?

Look at this thing upside down, then *remove* the actual base. Surely that would make more frikkin sense??

?

Looks better than the one for the XBOX 360.
Wow.

That's one fugly camera. And the mounting is going to be an issue. If I can't easily mount it on my DLP and remove it - without adhesive or a permanent mounting frame of some sort - I'm not buying it.

Don't most gamers have their audio connected to, you know, something like a surround system or other sets of speakers? Are they trying to steal more ideas from the Wii by adding speakers to peripherals?

Quote from the second sentence of the article text!

!! "With an array of four microphones, two zoom levels, and capture rate as high as 120fps," The 'Afro' is NOT a fricking speaker!

!!!

It is the 4 microphones that are fitted to it (just like the original EyeToy had installed on it)...

...

I suspect the grill on the top is the microphone array, not a speaker array. That doesn't negate the fact it could have worked below the camera as the base instead of on top as a hairstyle.
