Jazz vocalist Dianne Reeves may have four Grammys for her studio recordings, but the singer says her live performances are everything. This Sunday at Memorial Hall, audiences will have a chance to see Reeves' award-winning music come to life. "There is nothing like having an audience in front of you being a part of everything," she said.

Appearing as a part of the Carolina Performing Arts series, Reeves will be accompanied on stage by a pianist, a bassist and a drummer. "I want this to be a healing experience on many levels, through laughter, reflection and all of those kinds of things," she said. Having won "Best Jazz Vocal Performance" Grammys for three consecutive albums and one for the "Good Night, and Good Luck" soundtrack, Reeves' songs seek to tell stories rather than just serve as background sound.

"The biggest thing in life and music is storytelling," Reeves said. "These songs are all about things that are addressed in my life - things that have inspired me." The singer's work isn't limited to the U.

S. In addition to having performed extensively with the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association, Reeves has toured throughout the world. "Her voice is known for its virtuosity, and she is known for her improvisational skills," said Emil Kang, UNC's executive director for the arts.
