Sales of NDS (Nintendo DS) handheld games console topped all digital gaming devices in the North American market during the month from March 4 to April 7, totaling 508,000 units, according to a recently released NDP Group report.
Sony's PS2 beat Wii, Xbox 360 and even its successor PS3 to become the second best-selling gaming gadget, with sales totaling 280,000 units during the same month, the report noted.
Last month, sales of Nintendo's Wii were down 22% sequentially to 259,000 units, whereas sales of Microsoft's Xbox 360 declined 12% on month to 199,000 units, NDP reported.
Decreasing sales of Wii and Xbox 360 might indicate that sales of games consoles are moving into a slow season for the first half of this year, according to sources at Taiwan-based console dealers.
For the first quarter of 2007, sales value of all gaming consoles, including handheld models, in North America doubled to US$1.3 billion from US$659 million of a year earlier, NDP estimated.
