Her memoirs have upset Raj Kapoor and Dilip Kumar s family, and both have made it clear that they completely disagree with several of the contentions she has made in the book. While Rishi Kapoor said he was aghast by Vyjayantimala s claim that her affair with Raj Kapoor was an engineered publicity stunt, Saira Banu went to record and told After Hours that contrary to the rivalry suggested by Vyjayantimala, Dilip Kumar and Raj Kapoor were very friendly, almost like brothers. But Vyjayantimala herself has this to say: I wrote my memoir Bonding exactly as I remembered and lived my life.

I was candid and forthright. It was not my intention to hurt anyone, tread on anyone s toes or cause controversies. However, in the process if some people get hurt, all I can say is that it was not meant to be.

I have always stood by my principles. I do not think it is necessary to answer, react to or counter statements made by anyone. However, she did say she hoped the controversy wouldn t drag on any longer.

Saira is an angel and I am very fond of her. I regard her husband Dilip-sahab even to this day, which is amply acknowledged in my book. All said and done, it is better to bury the hatchet.
