[img] Below are quotes from the film Almost Famous; because I just watched it last night for about the eighth or ninth time, and because I once overheard the prior GM of UCLAradio.com tell another DJ to not bother with this movie. He was wrong.

And now that he s gone, the official stance of UCLAradio.com is: Almost Famous IS worth your time, my god, you have to see this movie, what is wrong with you if you haven t seen this movie, why are you still reading this, go rent Almost Famous. Okay, so [.

Never before the past two weeks have I been so grateful to attend UCLA. Unfortunately itís for all the wrong reasons. My little work-study gig has me sifting through rejection appeals; that is, rejected freshmen applicants.

If I ve learned one thing in these two weeks, it s that there are some people who desperately want to attend this school. Keep in mind, the admissions department is receiving about one hundred and eighty appeals per day. The appeals contain an endless flow of hyperbolic sob-stories, conspiracy theories etc.

Following are some of my favorite excuses, logic [...

[img] On April 16th, the 2007 Pulitzer Prize winners were announced. Winners this year included the amazing Ornette Coleman for his terrific new album, Sound Grammar . Not to sidetrack this already slow-starting blog entry, but Coleman is only the second non-classical composer to win the Pulitzer Prize for Music.

Wynton Marsalis won one in 1997 (too bad he sucks big time), and Duke Ellington was controversially shafted in 1965. The staff at the Wall Street Journal were awarded one for International Reporting for [the WSJ s] sharply edged reports on the adverse impact of [..

A year ago, Banksy switched 500 copies of Paris Hilton s debut album with his own and they were sold throughout the UK without anyone realizing.

That is, until they opened up the CD s and found images of Paris Hilton naked, her wearing a photoshopped Chihuahua face, and others marked by hilarious word stamps. Song titles were also changed and he went further to replace the music with 40 minutes of her repeating that s hot . You can view the Banksy images here Today, another artist, Vinchen, played a similar prank on Paris.

A bunch of her pictures in the [...

[img] The Virginia Tech Shooting is being called the worst shooting rampage in American history, and the deadlist mass shooting by a single person in the history of the United States, with 33 students and faculty killed, including the shooter, Cho Seung-Hui.

While the news media probes psychologists, asking what makes a killer? the most troubling part of the afermath is that so very few are asking the most obvious question: how is it possible for anyone to carry handguns into dorms or classrooms or anywhere in public? Doesn t anyone remember Columbine, almost [.

On Monday, April 9 at 11:50 AM, an upward count of 100 students surrounded the Bruin Bear in Bruin Plaza, knelt down and began to hail it reverently.

This was a flash mob, one in a growing trend across college campuses and other UC s. During a flash mob, large bodies of people gather to do something incredibly random for a short period of time (usually less than a minute) and then disperse as if nothing happened. Adding to the humor and amusement, high school tour guides arranged for their tours to end at 11:50AM in Bruin Plaza where the [.

Today, Herman Wallace and Albert Woodfox have spent 35 years of solitary confinement in Louisiana s Angola Prison.

The main witnesses was paid with a carton of cigarettes a week for life, living quarters in a house on a hill with his own room and a TV, no work duty, and other privileges.

Combined with key testimony from a legally blind certified sociopath, the all-white [...
