The film will be based on Mark Bowden's book 'Killing Pablo: The Hunt for the World's Greatest Outlaw'. It will outline the life of the late Pablo Escobar. Joe Carnahan will direct the movie, while Bob Yari, Mark Gordon and Jason Zelin are producing it.

While Bardem has been signed to portray Escobar, Bale is being lined up to play Major Steve Jacoby, the Delta Force commander who led the hunt for Escobar. Escobar, who rose as a leader of the drug cartel in Medellin in the Seventies, was killed in 1993 after being targeted by a coalition of Colombian police and military, the US Drug Enforcement Agency and the CIA. Yari has said that the production of 'Killing Pablo' was delayed because he was searching for the right director to helm it.

"This has been a passion project of mine for years, and it will be a tentpole for our company. I have been patient to get this done because I wanted the ideal director and cast. It was worth the wait," Variety magazine quoted him as saying.

He also said that he might begin shooting for the film as early as June next year. Copyright Dailyindia.
