Re: comments about Red Dwarf ...

my computer works *exactly* like Holly. Haven't you people tried Ubuntu? Well, enough randomness.

.. I suspect Microsoft didn't write (at least the bulk of) MS-DOS; more than a passing resemblance to CP/M there.

Still not alien technology, granted, but early impressions of Vista would tend to suggest it may have been downloaded from Uranus. (Groan). Further to the 'humans as batteries in the Matrix' references: it occurred to me at the time that batteries are just repositories for energy, not actual sources of it, ultimately; of course this also applies to humans, and therein lies the plot hole.

That nearly ruined the Matrix for me; I'm happy to suspend disbelief for uploading talent to Keanu Reeves' brain (let's face it, he doesn't ACT human, and that would probably be the only way to get some talent in there.) Of course the rest of the trilogy didn't need any such plot holes to be garbage - I lost interest five minutes in so I'm not sure if they had any. An aside: I'd be inclined to believe that at the core of Arnie's head, there genuinely resides a 6510, chugging through about 500 lines of BASIC.

.. That would explain the occasional resurfacing of these lines of dialogue during his political career.

The world is so full of bad computer moments on TV and in films it's damn hard to choose a favourite but one that sticks out in my mind is the sequence in series - ah, I dunno, one or two - of Battlestar Galactica where a very handy readout shows a virus making its way through the military computer system. I mean, quite apart from the question of how they had time to knock up such an attractive user interface to count down to their doom when time was supposedly tight, what kind of military computer system would be THAT wide open to attack? Um, scratch that last actually.

.. a lot of the characters do seem to have American accents.

.. Offensive?
