By MELISSA JANE KRONFELD and CHRIS MICHAUD At least the box office was yesterday when tickets went on sale for Mel Brooks new monster musical Young Frankenstein at the Hilton Theatre. Hundreds of hopeful ticket buyers waited hours in lines that snaked down 42nd Street for a chance to pony up as much as 450 for a premium orchestra seat to the much-anticipated show, which begins previews Oct. 11 and opens on Nov.
Among them were diehard fans of funnyman Brooks, who adapted his classic 1974 big-screen Frankenstein spoof for the stage in hopes that lightning will strike twice following his smash with The Producers. I m a big fan of Mel Brooks, said Maddie Biestock, 62, whose wait was closing in on three hours. Ticket brokers and online resale sites yesterday listed Young Frankenstein tickets for as much as 824 for one Saturday night orchestra ducat.
Face-value costs range from 60 for the balcony to 120 for standard orchestra, but some premium seats go for 450.
