Japanese videogame console maker has said that they are currently on track to ship 2 million units to the American market by the end of next month.
The launch of the PS3 gaming console saw severe shortage. This resulted in these consoles selling at a huge premium on auction sites like .
Sony added that they expect the deliveries to get sufficient by May this year. By then they expect to deliver enough units to meet the demand in the market.
The company is also due to launch the console in the European market starting next month.
Jack Tretton, chief executive of spoke about their plans: April or May is when we feel like we re going to catch up to demand and have product fully in stock across North America and stay there.
He added: Our goal is to fill shelves across the United States. Our goal is not to have empty shelves; it s to have full shelves.
If we have empty shelves, that s one less consumer who could have bought a PlayStation 3.
