The exclusive screening of Spider-Man 3 marks the first time a major movie premiere has been held in Queens. Jodi Jett lives in Astoria. She brought her nephew, Elijah, and niece, Mary Cain, who just moved to Queens from Missouri.
"So we just came here over a few blocks, right after school time," Jett told . "And just plopped down and wait a few yours so we can show them some New York excitement right here in our neighborhood." Elijah Cain, 8, was surprised to learn that Peter Parker lives in Queens.
"I thought he lived in Manhattan," he said.
Added Mary Cain, who was clearly very excited: "I like that he beats up bad guys and I like when he first gets his powers." Queens has rolled out the black carpet for Spider-Man 3.
Moviegoers will see a dark side to the superhero when his suit suddenly changes from red to black, enhancing his powers and causing his pride and overconfidence to take hold of him.
As Spider-Man tries to rediscover the hero people love, he must battle two of the most-feared villains yet, Sandman, played by Thomas Haden Church, and Venom (Topher Grace), as well as former best friend Harry Osborn (James Franco). Spider-Man fans can hardly wait to watch the action unfold.
"The first day of Spider-Man 3 I want to watch it," Yahya Berraissoun said. "My stepdad, he promised me to go." Tobey McGuire, Kirsten Dunst and all of the other actors were expected to attend Monday night's screening.
The movie opens nationwide on May 4.
