Las Vegas, NV (AHN) - Although Celine Dion is stepping down from her mesmerizing "New Day" performances at the Caesars Palace later this year, set to take her place on stage is Bette Midler.
It was announced on Thursday that Midler will be hopping onboard when Dion ends her run at the popular Las Vegas venue in December. The "Wind Beneath My Wings" singer will have 100 yearly shows lined up at the theater - significantly less than Dion who has performed 160 shows per year since she began her "New Day" shows in 2003.
Midler is currently tied to a two-year contract, which will begin on February 20, 2008.
The singer says she is looking forward to her new music venture, but admits she is also "terrified." She told the Associated Press, "I'm looking forward to it, but also I'm terrified because it's hug.
That's giving me the vapors."
Midler adds that she has some sort of an idea of what she would like her show to entail, saying, ""I think it'll be my usual outrageous, flamboyant, over-the-top show. I have tremendous background singers and I always have a great band.
"If I get lucky, I'll have semi-nudes. I love showgirls and I love feathers and sequins, so I'm hoping there'll be plenty of that."
No word yet on what Dion's plans are after she leaves the Vegas stage.
