All six remaining American Idol contestants were this week spared the axe in a charity spectacular special.
The US reality show abandoned its usual format for Idol Gives Back. The show was aimed at raising cash for the Charity Projects Entertainment Fund and other causes supporting needy American children.
It featured special performances from acts including Kelly Clarkson, Celine Dion, Annie Lennox and Il Divo.
Following the entertainment, Ryan Seacrest announced to viewers: "All your favorites are still in the competition. How could we let anyone go on a charity night?
"
More than 70 million votes were made which will be carried over to next week, when two eliminations will be made.
The six finalists are Melinda Doolittle, Blake Lewis, Phil Stacey, LaKisha Jones, Chris Richardson and Jordin Sparks.
