As the penultimate audition show in the 2007 season of Digicel Rising Stars aired last Sunday, viewers were treated to a sensational night of performances. From Conneil Tate, who led the performances belting out the notes of Air Supply/Jennifer Rush's, Power Of Love in her own style, we knew that the night would be special. The performances never missed a beat as a favourite from last season, Inga Stewart, kept the momentum rolling with a classic rendition of I Believe In You And Me.
Mento group was not to be outdone as they represented with their unique style. Equipped with their rumba box, guitar, and other music devices they raised the tempo even higher. Golda Watson, used her distinct, raspy tone to her advantage as she went old school, singing Ray Charles original, I Can't Stop Loving You.
Nerissa Richards closed off the first segment of the performances with a commanding rendition of Barbara Streisand's, Left In The Dark. The second half of the show was just as intense and quality filled as the first. Salome Poyser, aka Lady B, showed true class with a masterful performance of Otis Redding/Aretha Franklin, multi-platinum hit, Respect.
Just as the audience was taken to a new high, the five member group Kahlil, maintained the intensity of the performances with a superb rendition of Billy Joel's doo-wop hit, For The Longest Time. With tight harmonies and strong vocals the group continued the strong presence of groups in the 2007 season. Christal Campbell had no thought of a Surrender as she gave a magnificent rendition of Celine Dion's chart-topping hit.
On a night when women out numbered men, Kediesha McPherson was Dangerously In Love, singing every note of the Beyonce Knowles number. The night started on a high and ultimately finished on a high as Lenya Wilkes, rounded off the night's performance with a commanding performance of Whitney Houston's, I Wanna Dance With Somebody. Jamaica now has the opportunity to vote for their favourite contestants as the voting lines are now open and will close at 5:00 pm this Friday June 22.
