*On the heels of her role in the feature film “Tennessee,” singer-actress Mariah Carey has been cast in a new short from filmmaker Spike Lee that aims to spoof her life and times.
“Lovers Haters,” a 15-minute short budgeted at $5 million, will show Carey dealing with fans and critics alike who have entered her space as she rises to superstardom.
Lee’s 40 Acres A Mule Filmworks is producing the comedy short, while Carey and Benny Medina serve as executive producers.
Newcomer Kali Hawk, who recently starred as a waitress opposite Todd Bridges in the BMW Film Festival hit “Issues,” stars opposite Mariah in “Lovers Haters.”
The release date has been scheduled for Sept. 16.
