First, let me say I m well aware I m making no friends among you readers who don t watch Veronica Mars and are sick of me blathering on about it.
But for the record, tonight, I really don t care.
Cause tonight, not only did I hear some exclusive news about a new Rob Thomas project (see #4 below), we got what the CW presented as a season finale, even though it s painfully clear this episode was the series finale, and there are so many questions left unanswered it might lead me to an early grave mdash;and to permanently delete any CW series from my TiVo s season pass list.
(Yes, I m feeling that bitter...
but in my defense, did you hear the CW picked up a reality show called Farmer Wants a Wife?)
In the past few days, I ve received hundreds of emails from VM fans who, like me, are outraged at the show s apparent cancellation and want to know if there s any hope it will survive. Aside from my There s no hope posting last week, here s the depressing news I can tell you:
1.
CW president Dawn Ostroff technically has until June 15 to make a final decision on whether Veronica Mars will return midseason.
2. At the moment, there are no plans to bring back the show; it is considered to be over within the CW walls.
3. Insiders tell me that the CW s decision makers do not want to come right out and say Veronica has been canceled because they fear it will only add fuel to the angry fan fire.
4.
Insiders also tell me VM mastermind Rob Thomas is currently shooting a new project (on spec) at his house with Enrico Colantoni (Keith) and Paula Marshall playing spouses. As far as I know, Colantoni is not playing anything Mars-related, so it appears Thomas may be moving on..
.
I wish I had better news. I wish VM would survive.
I wish you would post your ideas below on how we might work some kind of miracle and save this show, because I m personally at a loss.
To think that I will never again see these characters, that I won't know what happens to Veronica, that I'll never KNOW makes me feel like I've been gutted. I'm not usually a fangirl like this, but it is absolutely clear to me that I just watched one of the best hours of television in many recent years.
That it's been carelessly tossed aside for Pussycat Dolls gives me no hope for this "fledgling network." anonymous member on 05/23/2007 0:09AM Vm needs a good series finale..
.they could give us a 2hour tv movie such as that of dawson's creek..
.. so we could known the future of our heroes.
.. Does cw is scared about us?
? I am very ashamed to say that the concept for Farmer Wants A Wife was stolen from dutch TV. Here, it's called 'Boer Zoekt Vrouw' and it is by far the most pathetic show on dutch TV yet.
But it works. People watch it. We started Big Brother and they stole that too, and that was a huge hit.
Hopefully that won't happen again! And just to add. Is there any way to get in contact with Rob Thomas?
See what he has to say about the matter? The last interview was optimistic so what happened exactly? Back to being proactive - I'm thinking donations.
Who can we send it to? Would you be able to collect money or form some kind of campaign to get donations? Rob did say that would be an option and I'm sure many would be willing to give some.
Come on people - thoughts? We have to at least put up some sort of fight. anonymous member on 05/23/2007 3:54AM I have to agree- given the short notice (CW execs dog in the manger - didnt want the show but wanted to make sure anyone else didnt get it either), would there be ANY hope of getting it over to USA?
Thanks Kristin ,for all you have done to support this show! You are just awesome and E is NOT paying you enought - what ever it is! CW is also officially on my not watch list for ANY new shows ever!
(I will still watch Supernatural until i My family has also done this w/Fox SINCE Wonderfalls! kirimaku on 05/23/2007 5:35AM Blaming the CW for doing their jobs is what is wrong with you people. Seriously you guys got three seasons of a underperforming show.
Let's face it if VM had a million more viewers it would still be on TV. So blame the people who water reality TV like PCD instead of VM. It's mostly their fault because they watched unintellectual TV instead of VM.
Also blame Mr. Thomas for writing cliffhangers. I am more then sure he knew VM had a chance to not come back and if he planned on FBI VM anonymous member on 05/23/2007 5:57AM I can't believe VM is going to end this way!
!!!
When Veronica was walking down the street I was literally sitting there with my mouth open stunned that it was just OVER...
.just like that no more. Is there any chance that another station will pick it up?
?? (USA is AWESOME they should totally pick it up,.
..Monk and Psych are 2 of my favorite shows and it was would be great to have VM on that channel as well!
!!) I am done with the CW!
!!!
I will never watch that channel again...
anonymous member on 05/23/2007 6:10AM I am broken up about this. I truly never thought i show could invest my interest on such an emotionally level. My only idea is to continue to patrol message boards.
.. maybe send a letter?
I dont know anymore. The best option is to have the show be picked up by another network. This is exactly what happened to Stargate SG1.
In this case, perhaps one like Sleuth. If the decision makers aren't decided by now, then the time and effort is best spent finding those that can appreciate such a show. New shows lack an established audience.
This show obviously has one. It also makes dollar sense for a network to pick something that is successful up than picking up something unproven. anonymous member on 05/23/2007 6:30AM Of course saying VM was canceled would stir the angry fan fire, it's keeping the causual viewer in the dark.
Let's keep up a good old fashioned letter writing, emailing (theCW feedback line and paul mcguire) phone calling campaign and tell the suits we still love VM. Is it possible the Enrico and Paula pilot is secretly part of VM-FBI? It's my understanding RT shot a mini pilot, so these could be scenes to beef it up.
..and this is all secretive as to not give hope to the fans.
.? anonymous member on 05/23/2007 6:39AM Besides the fact that the cast is simply amazing together and the weekly mysteries and interconnecting story lines/character plots/guest stars simply meshed so well together, you couldnt ask for a better show.
I dont know about you, but tI've about had it with these stupid reality shows. Now there is a farmer wants a wife show? GIVE IT UP!
!! If Veronica Mars is canceled I will never watch the CW network again!
!!!
anonymous member on 05/23/2007 6:44AM Kristin is only required to write her opinion. Thats what she does about all other shows. Its ONE entry.
Can she not dedicate it to a show that she loves? Would you be bagging her if it was your show? You grow up.
I can't boycott the channel, as I don't live in the US. iTunes is my savior I just finished watching the episode am devestated. Awesome episode.
Awesome season finale. But not for a series. We all know this.
There may be nothing we can do. But that doesn't stop us being mad. anonymous member on 05/23/2007 6:56AM So I'm a huge VM fan, much like the majority of posters on this blog.
But here's my question, did anyone catch that exchange between Piz and Mac last night as they were getting Wallace's plane out of the SUV? "Did you hear Matchbox 20 is having a reunion show?"-Mac "Rob Thomas is a whore.
"-Piz Jab at RT or writers being funny with the last show? And I have to say, I was thoroughly disappointed with the second hour of the finale. Thoughts?
anonymous member on 05/23/2007 7:16AM (Seriously...
almost done! Left off at: Lame Reality TV.) Have you heard?
They're bringing back the Mountain (you remember that craptastic WB show they had on for a minute?) Only they've moved it to a beach setting with new characters to boot. (I'm sorry.
..I thought they cancelled the OC?
) Doesn't the CW have a teen soap opera (One Tree Hill much)? I say sheep. Why not re-name the CW to Fox Reality Wannabe!
God, the finale was so fricking good. I'm hoping for a miracle and somehow Dawn Ostroff will come to her senses. If not, I saw we storm the place!
!!!
!!!
Here's to hoping for a VM movie! To parphrase Brooke from the Real World (head shake and all), I will never watch the CW ever, EVER AGAIN!!
!!!
!!!
!!!
!! the_cw_sucks on 05/23/2007 7:33AM so all the polls were just a way to keep fans busy visiting your Website?
Tell the CW to keep the farmers wives and cows whatever and just once, do what a **** of a lot fans want : dish us VERONICA MARS!!!
FRICKITY FRICK FRICK FRAK!! I am so mad at Dawn O.
How she thinks Farmers will get better ratings than VM is beyond me! I would love it if in 'Reunion' style Rob would clear up all the open enders from last night. Of course only when the final nail is officially in the coffin for our favorite show.
What will happen to Keith? Will V get her revenge? Will LoVe find each other again?
What about Weevil and his lie? Please work on that since you and Rob are BFF's:) Give us some closure. Meleegi on 05/23/2007 9:13AM Dana Ostroff, if you have any decency in you.
The show is smart, well-written, well-acted. Please, from the bottom of this V-Mars-fan's heart. Cause yesterday, I had a bad day.
I wish it could come back, midseason replacement? Is it bad of me to hope that enough shows are canceled and they think bringing back VM would help? The story isnt over!
i think we need a movie or something...
or 5 movies! or you know beg another network to buy it, i was so looking forward to a fourth season, and especially after the (mild) cliffhanger we were left with. feigenbaum on 05/23/2007 10:28AM I hope Madison Sinclair, unknowingly drugged by ****, spits in The CW's drink at a party.
I hope Logan Echolls leads a group salt lick off of The CW's nearly-comatose body. I hope The CW gets date raped by its ex-boyfriend alleged-half-brother Duncan Kane and Beaver "MY NAME IS CASSIDY" Casablancas. Then, if The CW comes to me to report the crime, I will tell The CW, "why don't you go see the wizard.
Ask for a little backbone." Wow. I am really disappointed in TV.
This past season had some amazing shows on and now the coming season has cancelled shows like Veronica and Jericho...
but we are going to be flooded with more reality tv? Reality tv that is even stupidier and stupidier than it's predecessors or reality tv? I think we all need to write some intelligent, choice dictionary word letters to every public address of these network people.
I for one do NOT want to be bombarded with stupidity inducing reality tv. anonymous member on 05/23/2007 14:51PM i think your column rocks cause i can see you on the news, if i want something less personal i would buy a magazine. pick up a show of farmers want a wife?
chance v mars for a farmer and doll show? Kristen and all VM fans..
. this is one for the CW since I will no longer be watching CW programming..
But I haven't seen it lately at all.. Come on now CW, keep it on, keep it on YEAH Just remember the FANS!
A long time ago, I am getting a little choked up. Rob Thomas really should do something for us fans who have kept VM going..
Some closure.. and closure.
LoVe? Sherrif? Wallace?
anonymous member on 05/23/2007 17:53PM Also, for people who are really angry that Kristin keeps blogging about this: Maybe we could let it go if they gave us a REAL FINAL answer to the cancellation. The ads didn't even say it was the SERIES finale. There was no "Thank you for sticking with us for 3 seasons.
" at the end. Also, they left us in a complete cliffhanger. Believe me, you'd be BEYOND furious if they canceled one of your favorite shows AND gave no proper send-off.
