EVEN battling breast cancer, Kylie Minogue has proved unsinkable after it was revealed this week she banked a tidy profit in the year she was laid low by the disease. The Aussie pop princess apparently pocketed more than $10 million in 2005, almost doubling her earnings from the year before. Her diagnosis in May 2005 prompted the 39-year-old to take 12 months away from the spotlight -- but that didn't stop the cash from rolling in.

Details of her firm Darenote's accounts showed she still managed a part-time income of $5.26 million from business investments, in addition to her salary of $3.7 million from worldwide record sales.

And with a new comeback album on the way and a TV role on Doctor Who to follow on UK TV this Christmas, the hits just keep on coming. The first photo of Minogue in her French maid costume for the science fiction series was released yesterday. Filming began in Cardiff earlier this month on the special in which the former Neighbours babe will play a maid on the Titanic.

"Dr Who enjoys a unique history and it is going to be very exciting to be a part of that," she said. The BBC hopes her appearance will lift ratings just as Minogue's most famous TV offering, Neighbours, leaves the broadcaster's screens. "As we lose Neighbours, we gain Kylie," BBC1 controller Peter Fincham said.

The annual Dr Who Christmas episode last year attracted an audience of 9.4 million UK viewers. (What is this?
