The awards celebrate "excellence and achievement in live performance" across 41 categories spanning opera, dance and theatre, and the winners will be revealed on August 6 in Sydney. The award for best Australian performance in a contemporary concert will be fought out by winner Damian Leith, David Campbell, Kylie Minogue and Olivia Newton-John. And an inner-city festival catering to a few hundred fans is facing the juggernaut of the national Big Day Out tour in the best contemporary music festival category.
The St Jeromes Laneway Festival, East Coast Blues and Roots Festival and WOMADelaide are competing against the long-running rock tour.
