us for this event, as well as the Los Altos and Wilson high school bands and the always popular Wilson Alumni Band. There will be floats, classic cars, clowns and equestrian groups. Bring a lawn chair and find a spot along Stimson Avenue to enjoy a wonderful parade!
The theme of this and all of the Fourth of July parades has been "I Love America." This year's grand marshals are all of the founding members of the parade. Representing the founding members are Barbara Fish and Bill Lynch.
Barbara Fish is a resident since 1967 with her husband, Ronald. They raised children Ron, Toni and Lori here. Barbara's list of community involvements is extensive: past president and life member of Hacienda Heights Improvement Association (HHIA), board member of the Native Habitat Preservation Authority, Wildlife Corridor Conservation Authority, Hacienda Heights Woman's Club, American Heart Association, Friends of the Library, and of course the Parade Committee.
Fish has also been heavily involved in landfill issues and the securing of grants for community needs. Bill Lynch returns to Hacienda Heights to celebrate the parade. For 20 years he owned Kwik Kopy Printing and raised his family here.
His wife, Joan, (56 years of marriage!) and his 3-year-old granddaughter, Micayla, will be riding down the parade route with him. Lynch was Kiwanis President in 1988 when the club was first approached about the idea of a parade.
He and club members helped gather the aid of the HHIA, the school district, the Sheriff's Department and others to put together this first parade in only eight weeks! Community support was tremendous the Olympic torch had just been carried through Hacienda Heights just days before the parade to set the stage! This year's Fourth of July Parade Queen is Vikki Prohoroff of Wilson High School.
She will be joined down the parade route by first runner up Angela Chinn and second runner up Maria Barrios, also Wilson students. Join community members for post-parade activities at Steinmetz Park, 1545 S. There will be presentations, performances by the Wilson and Los Altos bands, introduction of the grand marshals, recognition of dignitaries, food, entertainment, and announcement of parade entry trophy winners.
The 13th annual Jim Davis Beautification Day takes place at 8 a.m. on Saturday, June 30.
Volunteers from area Scout troops, churches and civic groups as well as individuals clean up several of our main streets in preparation for the Fourth of July parade. This event is sponsored by the HHIA. John Vianney Church, Hsi Lai Temple, Hacienda Worship Center and three Boy Scout troops.
Participants are asked to meet at 8 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Colima and Halliburton roads for safety instructions.
Volunteers are asked to bring a push broom, broom or square-nosed shovel. All are welcome. Refreshments will be donated by ABC Donuts, Dragon Bakery, Winchell's Donuts, Christy's Donuts, King Donuts and bottled water from the Upper San Gabriel Valley Municipal Water District.
