The world continues to discover El Paso favorite H H Car Wash and Coffee Shop, 701 E. The small business will be featured in a segment of the new "Hidden Kitchens of Texas" radio show on National Public Radio. The one-hour program will air on KTEP-FM (88.

5) at 6 p.m. Narrated by country music legend Willie Nelson, "Hidden Kitchens of Texas" explores lesser-known Texas culinary gems, including reviewing the birth of the Frito, the origin of the frozen margarita, the tamale lady of Dallas and a restaurant hidden down a driveway in Fort Worth.

H H Car Wash and Coffee Shop, owned by brothers Ken and Maynard Haddad, has been an El Paso institution since 1958. In 2001, the James Beard Foundation awarded H H its prestigious Bertolli Olive Oil America's Regional Classic Award. The business is one of a few Texas restaurants that have received the honor.

The diner has received attention from national television stations, newspapers and magazines. It has been mentioned in Chile Pepper magazine, Westways Magazine, Texas Journey magazine and Southern Living. Chefs Julia Child and Michel Richard have stopped in for visits, as has first lady Laura Bush.
