But she's departing from TV melodrama for cinematic comedy in "Knocked Up." The movie, which is made by the same people who made "The 40-Year-Old Virgin," is about a one-night stand that results in a pregnancy. Her costar, Seth Rogan, as well as supporting actor, Paul Rudd, both appeared in "Virgin" and many members of the cast and crew had a strong working relationship.
But Heigl said she was immediately welcomed and encouraged. "Judd (Apatow) is one of those directors that wants everybody's input," she told The Early Show co-anchor Harry Smith. "A lot of improv, which is terrifying for somebody who's never done improv.
" Rogen plays Ben Stone, an ambitionless, ordinary guy while Alison Scott, (Heigl), an entertainment reporter, is on the fast track to success.
Alison goes out to celebrate her first on-camera assignment, drinks a little too much, and ends up in bed with a not-so-ideal guy. The next morning, they go their separate ways only for Ben to receive a phone call that Alison is pregnant.
"It's a grown-up movie," she said. "This is not one for the kids." Heigl, who was a child model, said that making the movie was perhaps one of the best experiences she has had in her career.
She said one of her favorite parts of the movie was that frankness and honesty with which the characters dealt with each other, something that Heigl says rarely happens in real life.
