Marcil is also known as drag queen Dixie Landers. Marcil was beaten just after last call at the Centretown Pub on Somer Street West and found unconscious at the bottom of a flight of stairs.

Marcil's condition is still serious, according to : "There is still swelling in her brain, and she has thrombosis (blood clots) which requires careful monitoring because it can be life threatening. Her mother, a nurse by profession, will be taking care of Dixie at her home in Petawawa. Her mother will be bringing her back to Ottawa periodically for more medical tests, surgeries, rehabilitation, and physical therapy.

Since Dixie can’t stand for any length of time and tires easily, she is using a wheelchair to get around." According to CBC News, "On Thursday, police announced that they had made two arrests in connection with the incident: Andrew Lefebvre, 25, was charged with assault causing bodily harm; Sheri-Lee Rand, 29, was charged with assault. The accused, who are both from Ottawa, have been released and are to appear in court on July 26, police said.

Thomas Peterman of the CDC's Division of STD Prevention: "In some instances, the men involved have the attitude that they do not need safe-sex practices because they already are infected with HIV...

There are a number of studies that continue to show that there are some HIV-infected and some uninfected men who have sex with men who continue to have large numbers of (sexual) partners and anonymous sex. This is one of the consequences of that..

.I think the bigger message is that we need to get control of syphilis. And control of syphilis would require safe-sex behavior, reducing the number of partners, and using condoms with those partners.

And for men who have sex with men, it means getting tested for HIV and other STDs at least once a year." These are the demographics of the CDC's study: "Of the 49 HIV-positive gay and bisexual men with symptomatic early neurosyphilis, 63 percent were non-Hispanic whites, 18 were non-Hispanic blacks and 14 percent were Hispanic. Their average age was 38.

Via the : "Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York drew loud applause when she denounced the White House for its response to the AIDS epidemic in black America, moments after Gov. Bill Richardson of New Mexico complimented Mr.

Bush’s effort to finance a campaign to curb H.I.V.

infection in Africa. 'You know, it is hard to disagree with anything that has been said, but let me just put this in perspective,' Mrs. 'If H.

I.V./AIDS were the leading cause of death of white women between the ages of 25 and 34, there would be an outraged outcry in this country.

If we don’t begin to take it seriously and address it the way we did back in the ‘90s, when it was primarily a gay men’s disease,' Mrs. Clinton said, 'we will never get the services and the public education that we need.'" Clinton's answer was followed by the Biden/Obama exchange above.
