"Savvy!"
I watched Pirates of the Caribbean last night with Tin, Pots and Tiyaw!
Tiyaw and I came from school.
We met Pots in MRT Ayala station, then the three of us met Tin at Greenbelt 3. We paid for the tickets we reserved through the internet, ate our dinner at Big Buddha, claimed our free tea latte at Coffee Bean, and headed to the cinemas for the movie. The previews and trailers of other movies were long, it was boring, but when the movie started, our eyes were glued to the screen.
Warning: spoilers!
The movie is so C-O-O-L! Except for one thing: it's bitin.
I especially liked Johnny Depp aka Capt. Jack Sparrow (though I don't like his selfish attitude sometimes) in this movie because he is so cute and weird at the same time. His character stitches all the other characters together, and the movie can be renamed as "The Curse on Jack Sparrow" or "Curing the Captain From His Curse".
Hahaha!
Wokay, after the crap I just said, I'll briefly describe the plot. The story revolves around finding the key and the Dead Man's Chest that contains Davy Jones' heart.
Once you opened the chest and got the heart, it could grant you anything you want. Jack has this weird compass that will point you to the thing you want most, and that's what's helping them find the chest. When they finally got it (Jack, Elizabeth and the old Commodore), William appeared with the key he got from the Davy "The Squid Man" Jones and the three men fighted over the chest (a three-way swordfight which I absolutely liked!
). Jack wants it so he can be saved from the curse of being Captain of the Black Pearl, the ex-Commodore wants it to regain his life and reputation, while William wants it to free his father from the Squid Man and be able to control the Kraken (the monster lurking deep into the ocean, ready to destruct any ship). In the end, Jack was able to open the Chest, he got the heart, hid it, the commodore found it, took it and got away with it.
Now that he doesn't have the heart and the Squid Man after him (the curse on Jack Sparrow means he will be a crew and offer 100 years of service to Squid man), they decided to leave the ship. Elizabeth, knowing that the Kraken is after Jack and Jack only, chained Jack to the ship and left him there. William, Elizabeth and the surviving crew left aboard a small boat, leaving Jack with the Black Pearl.
He managed to detach himself but the Kraken already came and swallowed him. Then the story ends. Their dialogue is sometimes difficult to understand (with the British accent) so I'm not sure if that's how the story really is.
There could be other subplots and conflicts that lead to them doing what they did. When I get a copy of the movie, then I will fully understand everything.
Obviously, I liked the movie.
I liked the characters, the sets, the conflicts and it's a really good movie (and since we have good seats there'll be no excuse to saying otherwise). Although there are many unnecessary-to-the-story parts, like the tribe where they almost got roasted and the long struggle over the chest, these added to the overall comedy of the movie and it didn't fail if that was its purpose. As for me, I loved the three-way swordfight and the 2-swords-for-three-people fighting sequences.
That was really creative and I want to see more creative fight scenes like that (since I like fistfights and swordfights a lot more than exchanging gunshots). This movie will keep you entertained, will make you think and will make you laugh. So if you have the time, go see it and you may even like it more than I do.
^_^
Some funny lines I remember:
1. While all the men on board another ship were fighting over Elizabeth's gown (they believed there was some kind of curse or enchantment on it), the Captain hushed them all by saying: "If you all want to wear a dress you could all wear it one day at a time!"
2.
Capt. Jack: "I like it. Short and easy to remember.
"
3. Capt. Jack: "If this is a dream then there will be rhum!
"
*Spoilers ended*
Side notes:
1. I really missed Tin and I was so happy to see her again. She gained weight (Tin might kill me for this!
XD) but she still is pretty. Pots is as thin as ever, when will he gain weight? As for Tiyaw, I see him everyday so no comment about him.
:P
2. The Flavored Tea Latte from Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf was good (I tried Double Vanilla), I will not be able to tell it's tea hadn't they said it. (Now that I think about it, that's why it tastes kind of weird to me because I thought it was coffee!
) Just make sure you stir it well if you don't want to end up drinking really sweet tea halfway through your drink. It comes free with the movie tickets we bought and it makes the movie more sulit.
3.
We saw Borgy Manotoc at the coffee shop. He wasn't as striking as he was in print ads and not as tall either (though I don't like him that much to begin with). Tin and I weren't able to recognize him at first.
As for Tiyaw and Pots, they don't know him at all. Hahaha!
4.
Big Buddha (related to Superbowl) extended their promo until July 2006. So if you still have that free dish coupons of Superbowl, use it now. Their food tastes delicious and using the coupons will cut your bill by 30%.
5. We almost got lost on our way to (and on our way out; Tin was driving) Greenbelt since none of us are used to that place. Its a good place though, and I'd like to visit there more often in the future.
