I have to admit, I had never heard of Kim Kardashian until The Big Lead reported that .

So I'm writing this from a position of great ignorance, but I'll soldier on.

and say that Bush isn't Kardashian's only man. Apparently she's dating some guy named Scott Storch.

I've never heard of him, either. (Apparently I need to stop getting all my information from NFL Network.) says Storch is a 33-year-old Canadian record mogul as well as an arranger and musician Instrumentalist, whatever that means.

Anyway, Bush seems like a nice guy, and I think he'd be wise to stay away from the celebrity crowd. When he spends time during his off-season , he's moving his career in a positive direction. When he spends his time hanging out with Kardashian or or or , he's distracting from his career.

Several days ago, Sports Illustrated's .

His thesis? Reggie Bush has some splainin' to do, and the NCAA should "compel" such testimony. FanHouse writer Brian Cook responded with: .

Silver suggested Bush be cleared from the NCAA record books and USC disassociate itself from the school's star.

He also had this to say:

Putting aside morality, here's what's at stake: If a student-athlete and his parents can get away with, according to the Yahoo! report, receiving well over $300,000 worth of financial inducements, those of us getting wrapped up in the games on Saturday will have a very hard time buying into the notion of competitive balance.

Yeah, about that. I find it hard to believe . The persistent allegation is that Bush and his family accepted cash, gifts and a home from several people as part of an agreement to form a marketing company once Bush entered the NFL draft.

Such benefits are illegal per NCAA rules. Here's where Silver's competitive balance argument fails:

Bush was in his second and third seasons at USC and was not a threat to transfer to another program. The [alleged] benefits extended to him were via contacts not of the athletic department or USC boosters but low-lifes his father had crossed paths with.

Whether Bush had gotten something as small as a free football or as large as a family house matters not because he was already enrolled and locked into his USC education and playing career. Any such punishment would be towards a violation of a flawed "amateur" notion, not any doctrine about fair and even levels of competition. The games, the commodity the NCAA is in theory protecting, would be the same quality whether or not Bush's family had gotten the house.

It would be nice if Bush were more forthcoming and the college football public could learn the truth behind the allegations. It would also be nice if it rained ice cream and root beer but not everything pie-in-the-sky works our way. That said, Silver misses the mark in suggesting that the game's competitive balance is in doubt because of Bush's alleged actions.

Reggie Bush and I have one thing in common, I guess.

When we're in an airport, we like to play on those belts that carry lazy people to and fro. But while the cops like to tell me what I'm doing is "causing a public nuisance" and "acting like an idiot," Bush considers it training. It's all a part of Fre Flo Do, joining Tai-Bo and the Kaballah as fads for hip people that will last less than a year.

(some sort of foreign language for "treadmill with no handle bars.") When news came down a few weeks ago that Bush had chosen training in Los Angeles instead of New Orleans, some people didn't know how to take the news. Now, I can't help but chuckle.

I mean, watch the video, it all looks very silly.

That being said, I can't blame Bush for wanting to stay in California as long as he can. But he's going to have to show me some spectacular jumps into the end zone this year to prove that the was worth it.

NCAA investigators at left.

Michael Silver at SI has for the NCAA to deal with alleged rules violators who are recalcitrant when NCAA investigators come calling: punish first, ask questions later. In sum:

If Bush remains uncooperative -- and last month, while visiting a Trojans football practice, Bush brazenly told the Los Angeles Times that if he were called by NCAA investigators, "I wouldn't answer the phone" -- here's what should happen: His charmed existence as USC football star emeritus should be instantly and mercilessly revoked.

No more visits to practice or the Coliseum sidelines, or anywhere else on campus.

No more inclusion in the record books or media guides or promotional materials like football-highlights DVDs. Unless and until Bush agrees to an interview with NCAA investigators, he ceases to exist in the annals of school or NCAA lore.

Silver bases this on the various breathalyzer laws around the country that stipulate anyone refusing to be tested will lose their license.

Those laws are framed as the revocation of a privilege bestowed by the state and not criminal proceedings and have stood in court; this isn't even a governmental matter and couldn't be challenged.

I'm not really sure this is of , but I support the discussion:
A Chicago congressman plans to summon university presidents to a hearing on whether college athletes should be paid, saying athletes are being exploited for their ability to help schools realize extravagant revenues.

Rep. Bobby Rush, chairman of a House Energy and Commerce subcommittee, wants to know why college basketball and football players, in particular, aren't compensated for logging hundreds of hours for training, practices and games-free labor, he calls it-that can help institutions reap millions of dollars in TV and other revenues.

Frustratingly for the NCAA, this issue just won't go away. . Reggie Bush allegedly flaunted the NCAA's will on compensation last year.

I think most people are sympathetic to both figures and athletes at large and don't understand the heavy-handedness about everything from work hours to the occasional meal on the side that is so thoroughly regulated.

It took overwhelming public demand to force the NCAA's direly reluctant hand in allowing Clemson (and many other) fans to donate money and services to Clemson player Ray Ray McElrathbey last year when he as their mother fought a drug addiction.

The more these situations pile up, the more silly the NCAA looks.

I'm not sure "compensation" is the solution, but certainly a greater level of understanding and willingness to recalibrate the rules might buy time and much-needed goodwill with athletes and the public.

(Via and )

Reggie Bush said that , but I think this is one exception the city of New Orleans will forgive.

As for "all of the teams" who passed Bush up, there's really no need for the plural there. Only one team was that foolish.

But, hey, I'm sure having Mario Williams for the next five years was worth not risking a holdout. Right, Charlie Casserly?

I think the commercial speaks loud and clear about who the Raiders should select in the draft tomorrow (hint: it's not JaMarcus Russell or Brady Quinn).

Forget about the contract stuff, forget about needs: draft the best player available. It would kill Raiders fans to see Calvin Johnson doing this same commercial next year donning a Lions, Falcons, or Buccaneers hat.

Saints running back Reggie Bush was a guest of Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice at the White House Correspondent's Association Dinner Saturday, the big event at which celebrities mingle with Washington insiders.

Bush seems like such a smart, likeable guy that I could see him getting into politics some day.

But he when asked about the situation in New Orleans.

"I am just trying to broaden my horizons," he said of his appearance at the dinner, where he sported two large diamond stud earrings. "It is fun, I didn't realize it would be so big.

" Asked about how the post-Katrina rebuilding is going in his new hometown, he said, "It's still a mess," adding that he believed President Bush was doing his best to help. "I'm pretty sure being president has got to be tough."

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's tough, too.

I'm also pretty sure it's tougher to get into the Playboy Mansion than it is to get into the White House.

It may have taken a year plus, but Reggie Bush or his family - someone - has over unpaid rent at the family's onetime San Diego residence.
Jordan Cohen, [Michael] Michaels' attorney, said Thursday they have decided not to proceed with the lawsuit. [snip]

[Lloyd] Lake's attorney, Brian Watkins, said yesterday the settlement between Michaels and the Bush family did not affect his client's case and he was proceeding with his lawsuit as planned.

He said he hoped to file it soon after he finished another unrelated case.

So does this resolve anything regarding the Bush case? Not really!

Because of the threat of lawsuits, the NCAA's investigation has been held back and hasn't received full cooperation from all parties in the case, including Bush. It is not known whether settlement terms could further hinder the NCAA case, or allow it to move forward more openly. Without the cooperation of Bush's family and others, the NCAA and Pac-10 Conference have had to develop other sources in the case.

But the NCAA lacks subpoena power.

"I've never had it where both sides agreed not to talk (as part of a settlement agreement)," said Ron Barker, the Pac-10 Conference's Associate Commissioner for Governance and Enforcement. "I think they probably could do that.

That's one of the problems we're having in this matter. There's no way we can force people to talk to us."

As , the NCAA's investigation isn't moving anywhere at this point until the courts have their say.

After months of one-sided allegations into the affair, both sides have now dried up as talks apparently head towards a settlement.

Although were reported recently, they were in the context of a potential federal case against Bush's accusers. Such recordings are most likely illegal without permission from both parties.

Methinks the Bush family probably didn't agree to such recordings, a potential smoking gun against his accusers in the Bush family's extortion counter-suit.

If true, this is where the settlement talk comes in - Bush would like this matter to go away and shore up the USC end of it as far as NCAA investigations go and his accusers would probably like the extortion claim dropped and their loans and gifts repaid. Silence from both parties is the key to any advance under such a scenario.

Either way his side has settled some of the matter, agreeing to pay back rent totaling approximately $54,000 plus expenses.

Here's the latest on the story: Max Soto of Ace Entertainment e-mailed FanHouse to let us know that the is very much on and that Reggie Bush is on the guest list and definitely not banned from the Mansion.

The Kiss Tell Party is on April 21; are the following weekend. If we've learned anything the last couple of days, it's that there's no shortage of PR people looking to plug events involving Reggie Bush.

So is this the last word? Not quite. It would still be nice to know how the L.

A. Daily News got its initial report that Bush had been banned and whether it stands by that report. So far no word on that.

Is ?

Maybe not. Despite a report yesterday that Bush has been banned from Hef's palace, notes that a site advertising the party on April 27 still lists Bush as one of the guests:

Party with LA's hottest ladies, Playmates, Celebrities, and Professional Athletes at the world famous Playboy Mansion! Special guests for this party include: Warren Moon, Franco Harris, Reggie Bush, Carson Palmer, Joey Porter, Lil John, Lil Wayne and Busta Rhymes.

So that would suggest that not only is Bush not banned, but that he's one of quite a few football players past and present who are more than welcome to party at the Mansion. I'm sure they'll all enjoy themselves.

This is very, very thin on the details, but when you hear that a professional athlete has been banned from the Playboy Mansion because of a "conduct violation," you take what you can get. Bush's banishment from Hef's mansion was reported by :

Our spies tell us former USC tailback Reggie Bush is persona non grata at the Playboy Mansion because of a conduct violation.

And no, it was nothing involving a Playmate.

That's the full report. What was Bush's violation?

If it didn't involve a Playmate, it's probably not as interesting as you're hoping. We do know that , and that he appeared in her . That's about all I can tell you about Bush's personal life, but maybe Yahoo sports will launch into a more vigorous investigation.

Few things awe people more than the act of speed. I sit here writing this while the Daytona 500 plays out on my television screen, cars ripping across asphalt at nearly 200 miles an hour. The main event at the Olympic games is the 100 meter dash.

In college football, our fastest players have quite often been amongst the most celebrated.

Reggie Bush and Adrian Peterson came along and spent three seasons simply running right by defenders. They gave way to Ted Ginn who capped his career with a kick return touchdown that was Ohio State's lone highlight in January's BCS Championship Game.

But now that those guys are gone, who is left to fill the void as captivating speedster?

For players already on college rosters, Clemson has two of the zoom zoomiest around in receiver/returner Jacoby Ford and tailback CJ Spiller, both sophomores. There are other players out there yet to make their mark and we'll be on the lookout for them.

One such burner is Jamere Holland, a redshirt freshman receiver at USC who clocked somewhere in the 10.3 range in the 100 meters in high school.

Florida sophomore receiver Percy Harvin is also a superb choice, weaving expertly through defenses any time he so much as has a step on a defender.

West Virginia junior tailback Steve Slaton has excellent speed and is a worthy candidate. Junior Arkansas tailback and Heisman Trophy runner-up Darren McFadden is an obvious selection here. Finally, there is junior Texas tailback Jamaal Charles who ran somewhere in the 10.

2 range in high school and owns several long touchdown runs to his name.

Among incoming recruits, many people have made comparisons between Louisiana's Joe McKnight (a USC signee) and Reggie Bush, but McKnight is probably a step slower with a personal best of 10.71.

There are some reports of him having clocked a 10.4, but I have yet to find anything legitimate and official backing that up. He's definitely a playmaker but I'm not sure he's quite in that class of guy who simply runs right by college defenders as Peterson and Bush and Ginn were able to do.

My nominee among this year's incoming freshmen to fill the speed vacuum would be tailback Jahvid Best, a 10.41 runner who has signed with California.

Noble reader: now that you've seen my list, I ask you now who else should be under consideration as an impact player with awe-inspiring speed?

Feel free to leave a comment below.

Forget . The Big Lead has : The beautiful woman you see in that picture is the singer Ciara, and she may be Reggie Bush's girlfriend.

If you're not familiar with Ciara, her is a nice place to start.

You'll learn that she's 21 years old, she grew up an Army brat, and her full name is Ciara Princess Harris. Then take a look at , where you'll hear the voice of the woman who stole Reggie's heart.

And OK, we don't know for sure that they're actually an item.

But they did go to Clive Davis's pre-Grammy party together, which is certainly enough to cause us to speculate. And you can see pictures of them together . They make for a nice couple, I think.

Signing Day came and went almost a week ago but recruiting is still a hot topic in college football. The FanHouse has been all this week. As always, USC leads the headlines with Joe McKnight's and the .

Both are obscure no-no's. But there's also a between the divergent missions of the university and the football team. And then this morning came news of of yet another obscure rule.

In the years I've followed recruiting I don't recall this much carryover of issues a week after signing day. Perhaps this is because of the rise of the recruiting websites, perhaps it's because of the game's tremendous popularity right now. Perhaps a million other things but this may be the proverbial bubbling before cauldron's lid bursts off.

And perhaps it's because a Midwestern school with great pull managed to register their complaints against lowly Illinois and its big recruiting class all the way .

Look no further than Brian's entry today about NCAA President to review recruiting practices to see that things are definitely heating up.

As for remedies, Brian suggests getting rid of the idea of singing day.

Eh. I'd rather they just simplify and reduce the rules and ask that the NCAA spend the necessary dollars to credibly enforce them. Of course the NCAA has earned the reputation of a bad lover over the years, all take and no give so my suggestion is probably pie in the sky but you never know.
