A woman's boyfriend paid US$350,000 (more than $425,000) for her to kiss George Clooney in a charity auction.
The event, a fundraiser for AIDS research organisation amFAR, took place in Cannes where Clooney is promoting his latest movie, a yachting holiday.
And though many women would happily pay to kiss George Clooney, not all commentators were happy about the deal.
"$350,000 and no tongue? Outrageous!" opined celebrity website TMZ.
