Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia`s noted film actor Rano Karno denied he had received money from a coalition of political parties through Fauzi Bowo, a Jakarta gubernatorial candidate, so that the senior movie star stays away from the gubernatorial election.
"I had to speak out.
Firstly, I have never withdrawn from the Regional Head Election. Secondly, I have never been contacted by former president Abdurrahman Wahid alias Gusdur, and thirdly, I have never received any money from Fauzi Bowo," Rano Karno pointed out.
Rano said he could not understand how such nonsense got into circulation.
On the statement of Abdurrahman Wahid that Rano Karno failed to meet his invitation three times, the actor said he was never contacted by the former president, who is the chairman of the Nation`s Awakening Party (PKB)`s advisory council.
On his chance to run for the Jakarta`s governorship, Rano said he had lost his chance.
"I have no longer any chance.
Initially I will be supported by the PKB, but later the party has chosen another candidate," he said.
On Friday afternoon, PKB announced that PKB supported Sarwono Kusumaatmadja as a Jakarta governor candidate and artist Dyah Rieke Pitaloka as his running mate.
In a press conference, Gus Dur said Rano Karno did not meet his invitation three times, and had received money from Fauzi Bowo amounting to Rp3 billion to withdraw his candidacy.
