Because of my frequent travel, it's been awhile since I've done one of these posts. For some reason, this week I didn't consume nearly as much culture as I normally do -- blame it on too much work, a lack of interesting options or my !
Best TV show I watched: Heroes.
I love how this show rewards us after a long break with death, suspense and even a little humor. The only thing missing from this week's ep was Mr. Muggles.
I also enjoyed: The Office, Lost, Planet Earth and Regis' comeback on Live with Regis and Kelly. (I still haven't seen last night's 30 Rock.)
Best movie I saw: Spider-Man 3.
But here's the thing: Even though I'm saying Spidey was the best flick I caught all week, it pains me to tell you it was, ultimately, a disappointing experience. Sure, the visuals were exciting -- Sandman looked phenomenal, and Venom's teeth made my knees rattle. Topher Grace, Bryce Dallas Howard and Thomas Haden Church all delivered good performances.
But it was as if way too many people tried to contribute to the story -- and, as a result, it kind of jumps all over the place. I left with too many unanswered questions and I spent too much time in the theater letting my mind wander. That's not to say the movie is bad, I just felt it was .
.. incomplete.
Now I just can't wait for the movie to come out so we can discuss it in more detail.
I also enjoyed: The Oxford American , Sherrybaby, (seriously, it's a documentary about combovers)
Best CD I heard: ! I've been listening to The Reminder nonstop ever since it went up on MySpace.
Put it in your ears. You won't regret it.
I'm also listening to: I know I sound like a broken record, but I really like that Modest Mouse CD.
And the new Charlotte Gainsbourg record. And ' Batten the Hatches -- I played a song from that in this week.
Best book I read: Oh wow, speaking of podcasts, the best book I read is featured in next week's edition.
I can't tell you what it is, but it made me feel like a 13-year-old again. In a good way.
I'm also reading: by .
I've written a trillion times about Kochalka's daily diary comics, and the second book is especially magical because each page is in color. Last weekend I sat on my porch for about an hour and a half with Elf and a cold beverage and had the greatest time.
OK, your turn: What are you watching/hearing/reading these days?
Do tell ...
