MARC ALMOND enjoyed fame in the 1980s alongside Dave Ball as one half of the duo Soft Cell. Their version of the northern soul classic 'Tainted Love' sold millions of copies around the world. Almond's successful solo career was interrupted in October 2004 when he was badly injured in a near-fatal motorcycle crash.

His latest solo album, Stardom Road, is released tomorrow. He will be performing at ABC1, Glasgow, on June 22 (0141 332 2232). Tickets cost £20.

What is your perfect weekend?
A peaceful couple of days with no plans, just time to do as I like.
What would you do if you ruled the world?

I would decree that all religion be outlawed altogether, because it only seems to cause pain and trouble.
What one thing would improve your life?
A long and carefree holiday.

Who did you last receive a text from and what did it say?
I can't remember. I'm not a fan of texting - it's a waste of life and another means of not interacting with others on a human level.

What's your guiltiest pleasure?
Devouring whole packets of chocolate biscuits while watching Deal or No Deal in the afternoons.
What makes you angry?

Much of life generally - small-mindedness and a good deal of political correctness.
What do you wish you had never done?
Where do I start?

Regrets, I have a few, and then again, some extra ones too. I regret keeping my father's name, Almond, and of course I regret the regrets.
Would your mother be proud of you?

I think my mother would be the person to answer that.
Who would you like to say sorry to?
All those people I have been mean to who didn't deserve it.

I've learnt a lot of lessons over the years.
Who does the cleaning in your house?
I have a lovely cleaner called Maureen.

Or I do it myself, which I always find therapeutic.
What's the most you've ever spent on a single purchase?
Too much to tell you, which means I am embarrassed and ashamed of my past extravagances.

What is the most embarrassing thing that has ever happened to you?
Out of a career of embarrassing moments, you want me to name just one?
What is your earliest memory?

One of my earliest memories is walking on Southport beach with my grandfather. I was a sickly child and he would take me there to get the fresh sea air.
When did you lose your virginity?

Around 13.
When were you last naked in front of another person?
Yesterday, when my trainer gave me a massage (all above board, I hasten to add).

What song is the theme tune to your life?
Who would play you in the movie of your life?
Everyone tells me Alan Cumming, but my vanity has other deluded ideas.

Should you vote?
I think you should go with your conscience.
What worries you in the wee small hours?

I am a natural worrier. I have anxiety about every little thing, especially learning and remembering lyrics to songs. That is such a worry to me.

Who was your favourite teacher?
My favourite teacher was a tutor at my first art college in Southport - he was called Max Eden, and he had known so many great people and had a wonderful love of life. He taught me that life is a great adventure and to just go for it.
