out of five:

ATL***1/2
This is just a solid slice of life film about two brothers growing up in Atlanta. The cinematography here is excellent..

.the film is extremely colorful and beautiful from beginning to end. The messages are meaningful and the cast of unknowns does a suprisingly good job.

This film pushes the four star range. There are some familiar faces in supporting roles that really do an excellent job and add much depth to this solid pick.

The Fountain****
Both films on the list today are visually fantastic.

I'm not quite sure how this film didn't win for best art direction...

but whatever. Hugh Jackman plays a time traveling man in search for a cure for his ailing wife. Rachel Weisse does a particularly fantastic job as the wife and Hugh is solid as well.

The story is magical and interesting and the morals and meanings can be interpreted in many different ways...

.I spent about 10 minutes talking about what this and that meant with my girl..

.but ultimately it is that open ended interpretation that really sets this film apart..

..that and the visuals.

This is somewhat of an avant garde piece that can often be confusing and mysterious, but I thoroughly enjoyed this emotional and beautiful roller coaster.
