It was not exactly ice cream weather but people screamed for their favorite scoops at area Baskin-Robbins 31 Flavors stores Wednesday night just the same.
At 31 cents a scoop, who could resist the offer from 5 to 10 p.m.
Not just for the treat, but to help out the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.
Among the company's past scoopers are Sen. Barack Obama, Rosie O'Donnell, Julia Roberts, Leeza Gibbons, Bobby Flay, Chandra Wilson and Randy Quaid. For more information on the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, visit www.

The ice cream chain, based in Canton, Mass.
, hosted "Thirty-one Cent Scoop Night" for the foundation with the goal to make a $100,000 donation. The foundation, created by Congress in 1992, honors America's fallen firefighters and assists their families.
The money donated by Baskin-Robbins will be used to help support the organization's programs including "Everyone Goes Home," which helps to prevent firefighting line-of-duty deaths and injuries.
"Thirty-one Cent Scoop Night gives us a wonderful opportunity to show customers our appreciation and at the same time support a great organization," said Ken Kimmel, brand official at the ice cream company.
Area Baskin-Robbins stores have been promoting the event for weeks, and many customers couldn't wait for the event to get underway.
"I had a customer who called to pre-order 100 scoops," said Kenneth Robinson, who owns two stores in Waukegan with his wife, Etta.
He said he had to triple the staff at each store to six people to handle the crowds Wednesday evening.
"We expect to dish out thousands of scoops at each store," said Robinson.
Probably more because there was no limit as to how many scoops one could order.
