IOL: Grant's chance to shine at Newlands

Unlikely as it might have sounded a few months back, Peter Grant gets a chance to catch Jake White's eye at Newlands on Saturday.
With the Stormers looking for their first back-to-back victories of the season, against the bottom-placed Reds, the odds are that the Stormers will win and go into their final round-robin match against the Sharks with momentum.
Grant has snuck up nicely on the rails as the season has unfolded.

The flyhalf has made the Number 10 jersey his own - ahead of Naas Olivier and Brent Russell, who had both been talked about at the beginning of the campaign - and his 87 points are the fourth highest in the competition.
Grant, who has an educated boot to back up an increasingly physical approach, is the leading South African points scorer in the Super 14 this season, and in a disappointing overall campaign, it should be something worth highlighting.
Saturday's expected heavy underfoot conditions can give the flyhalf a chance to showcase his other talents.

There will be a lot expected of him to drive the Reds backwards, kicking intelligently out of hand for the corners. These days Grant looks more confident than in previous months, and with no player sticking his hand up and saying, "the Springbok No 10 jersey is mine," he deserves closer inspection.
Springbok loose forward Joe van Niekerk will pack down at No 8 and he also gets the opportunity to impress the selectors after an injury to Justin Melck.

In the only other change to the side that beat the Blues 33-20, JD Moller returns at loosehead prop in place of Schalk Ferreira.
The Stormers have lost only once at Newlands during this campaign and home advantage will make them favourites.
"We've got a good record at home and will be trying to uphold that.

There was a fantastic atmosphere at Newlands last week. We'd like to make it a fortress again," said coach Kobus van der Merwe.
Van Niekerk is delighted to get the opportunity.

"I'm very stoked to be back. I'll try to give my best out there" he said.
