David Marshall says he turned down a plea from Celtic manager Gordon Strachan to stay at Parkhead because he was disillusioned with life on the bench. Marshall completed a move to Norwich City yesterday for an undisclosed fee after being replaced in the Celtic pecking order by Artur Boruc. Marshall, who has signed a three-year contract, said: "I did not want to go back to Celtic after six months of playing on loan at Norwich and sit on the bench.
"I had a good feeling of coming here, I'm glad to eventually come down here." Norwich manager Peter Grant said: "Gordon Strachan wasn't too keen to let him go but we pursued it and I think Gordon got sick of listening to me going on and on and eventually agreed," Meanwhile, Craig Beattie admitted the time was right for him to leave Celtic. "I can't wait for the season to start," he said.
"West Brom is a massive club and I feel it's a club that should be in the Premiership. I'm looking to push my career on and hopefully be successful. It's up to me now to cement a place.
"Any footballer wants to be playing week-in and week-out so I decided I needed to move." Reproduction in whole or in part without permission is prohibited.
