A source told Britain's Daily Mail newspaper: "Stella is thrilled as she was becoming really desperate for a child.

" The baby will be Sir Paul's third grandchild - his daughter Mary has two young sons. Stella wed publisher Alasdhair last year in a bitter sweet ceremony conducted at her late mother Linda McCartney's favourite place, the Scottish Isle of Bute. The star studded guest list included star couple Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin, Madonna and husband Guy Ritchie, actress Liv Tyler and supermodel Kate Moss.

I didn't report this earlier because I thought it was old info, because I remember her being pregnant last year, but then I read it in a second place. Expect to see this headline (lifted from The Scotsman) to appear in many a tabloid.

The baby will be her second child with Murray, an anaesthesiologist whom she met at a friend’s dinner party. The couple’s first child, David, was born in March last year. Her first child is Jessica, 10.

JK said: "I am delighted to say that I am expecting a third baby, who is due next year. I always wanted three children so I could not be happier." The author, who recently announced that the sixth book in her series would be called Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, added: "Now I know many Harry Potter fans will be worried about what this means for the timing of book six.

But let me reassure all of you that book six remains well on track and, fingers crossed of course, I don’t foresee any baby-related interruptions or delays. I still can’t say when it will be finished but I have written a lot and I really like it.
