One of the hottest songs from the Baltimore band Fools and Horses is "Fly Me to the Moon," off their second album, about misunderstood youth and oppressive parents. Ironically, songwriter Matt Hutchinson, 24, first began pounding out the song's guitar riffs with his brother in their mother's basement. Reluctantly, the guitarist and singer admitted that his mother loves the band.

"Normally, you get a little more cred when you're doing something against the establishment or whatever -- but she helped pay for the CD so I'm not complaining," he said. On Saturday, the up-and-coming band will play in Frederick. Recently, Fools and Horses won the best video award from the Washington Area Music Association Awards (known as a Wammie), for the live video of "Fly Me to the Moon.

" The video, which can be seen on the band's web site, has a retro feel that might remind some viewers of a video from The Who. In fact, the Pete Townshend/Roger Daltrey band is one of Hutchinson's influences, along with the Beatles and other classic rockers. Fools and Horses' other band members are Kent Warren on bass and vocals, Steve Herrera on guitar and vocals and Matt's brother Tim on drums and vocals.

Matt, the older brother by a year, was originally reluctant to have Tim in the band. "I thought he'd get all the chicks," he said. "I thought that was a problem.

I don't know how I couldn't have seen that as an advantage. Because girls coming to the show are girls coming to the show. I kind of lost that ego trip and decided, 'We'll pull him along and see what he gets.

' And he's done well for himself with the girls, so I'm proud of him." The band's name comes from the BBC television show "Only Fools and Horses," but also from the obscure quote that inspired that title: "Why do only Fools and Horses work?" "We just kind of play into that whole philosophy," Hutchinson said.

"If you're smart enough and industrious enough you can make a living doing something you like and not have to grind everyday.
