LOS ANGELES, CA, United States (UPI) -- 'Live Free or Die Hard,' the latest adventure of New York police detective John McClane, took in an estimated $9.1 million on its first day in U.S.
Bruce Willis -- reprising McClane for the third sequel to the 1988 blockbuster, 'Die Hard' -- scored his best first-day opening as a headliner in a live-action film since Michael Bay`s 'Armageddon' took in $9.7 million July 1, 1998, Variety reported Thursday. 'Live Free and Die Hard' made more on its first day Wednesday than any of the three previous 'Die Hard' installments.
The film opened midweek to make way for Bay`s 'Transformers,' which starts playing in theaters Monday night in advance of its official opening Tuesday, 20th Century Fox said.
